What NovoPsych is
NovoPsych is an Australian psychometrics platform launched in 2012 by clinical psychologist Dr Ben Buchanan. It has more than 150 scientifically validated assessments, used by 75,000 clinicians across psychology, psychiatry, schools, hospitals, NDIS providers, EAP services, defence, federal police, and university clinics. The clinician picks an instrument, sends a link to the patient, and receives a scored report.
It is the broadest assessment library in the country, and it is well-trusted. NovoPsych also has a separate AI scribe product, NovoNote, which is a different conversation.
What Velluto is
Velluto is a pre-consultation clinical intake platform built by a practising GP for GPs running ADHD assessments under the new NSW reforms (Stage 1 since September 2025; Stage 2 from March 2026). It is vertical, not horizontal.
From the moment a booking is made, Velluto walks the patient through their intake, invites and chases the observer, collects childhood documents, runs validity scoring, and assembles a clinical summary on your screen before the patient walks in. Built and hosted in Australia.
The questionnaires are not the difference
NovoPsych has ASRS, SNAP-IV, and the Vanderbilt scales. Velluto has the same instruments. Anyone telling you Velluto has a unique questionnaire is selling you something. The questionnaires are commodity.
The difference is everything around them.
The integration gap
A NovoPsych workflow for ADHD assessment looks like this. You pick the instruments you want. You send each link to the patient. You wait. The patient does the questionnaires. You receive scored PDFs back. If you want an observer report, you send a separate link to the observer. If you want childhood documents, you ask the patient to email them in. You read each output, score it in your head, write up the clinical letter from a template, and run the consultation.

Where the data lives
This matters more for ADHD diagnostic data than for transcripts. Under the Privacy Act 1988, mental health and diagnostic information is sensitive information with stricter protections under the Australian Privacy Principles. Where it gets processed and stored is a real question.
NovoPsych Psychometrics says in its own privacy policy that it “may share, transfer and process data in countries other than the country you live in.” Patient data is hosted in Australia by default, but other data can sit in the USA, Ireland or the UK. Country-specific guarantees are gated to the Enterprise plan.
Velluto processes every byte of patient data inside Australia. The database is in Sydney (AWS ap-southeast-2). AI summarisation runs in AWS Bedrock Sydney. Document extraction runs on Google Cloud in australia-southeast1. The application is hosted on Vercel syd1. There is no overseas processing, on any plan.

Is my patient data really kept in Australia with Velluto?
Yes, on every plan. The database, AI processing, document extraction, and hosting are all in Australian regions. NovoPsych stores Patient Data in Australia by default, but its privacy policy allows other data categories to be processed offshore, with country-specific guarantees gated to the Enterprise plan.
Why does the new state ADHD reform change anything?
The NSW reforms make GPs responsible for the assessment pathway, not just the prescription. Stage 1 went live on 1 September 2025; Stage 2 (allowing GPs to diagnose and initiate medication) commences from March 2026. That changes who needs the workflow tools. NovoPsych was built for psychologists. Velluto is built for the GP doing this work under the new framework.
What is the actual cost difference per assessment?
